Mentoring Philosophy and Support for Diversity and Equity
Different training backgrounds and perspectives can create more innovative and impactful work.
We want to offer a chance to show trainees that research on science and medicine are things they can be involved and pursue regardless of their background and upbringing. This unique perspective has instilled within me a deep understanding for students and trainees from various socioeconomic and social backgrounds. I tailor my mentorship to the specific needs and career stages of my trainees, which I elucidate below:
We provide mentorship and hands-on training that ensure technicians are thoroughly trained to approach scientific inquiry. We encourage them to explore, reading papers, and ask questions, creating an environment that fosters the development of skills necessary to empower themselves and to accomplish their career goals.
We support that establishing a strong scientific and technical foundation is fundamental to a successful scientific career. We provide mentorship that ensures graduate students are thoroughly trained and encourage them to perform curiosity-driven questions. We support them in finding a career path that aligns with their passion.
We encourage academic freedom, fostering independence, and cultivating ambitious scientific visions. We support them to address questions that hold the potential to expand or change the landscape of neurodegenerative research. The postdoctoral fellows I mentored come from diversebackgrounds, including Russian, Korean, Chinese, and Americans.
